To the editor:
In regards a story last month about dangerous driving causing death charge against a Kenora police officer I think the charge will likely be dismissed and the SIU knows it will likely be dismissed.
Many arrests for public intoxication are unlawful because many cops are not aware of the reasonable grounds required to lawfully arrest for this offence. If the SIU challenged the authority of the arrest, it would most likely be found unlawful. An unlawful arrest followed by an unlawful detention and imprisonment in the cop’s car would bring serious charges against the cop but that is not likely the intention of the SIU.
Their intention is to bring charges that will likely be dismissed to make the public feel justice is being served.
More and more cases brought by the SIU have indications of the SIU being partial to protect the police and not the public.
