To the editor:

It’s not surprising that the city has mismanaged the city golf courses over the last several years and chased away most of their customers with unreasonable rate increases.

Anyone with half a brain would not make the same mistake year after year if they wanted to stay in business. Affordable prices, reasonable rate increases and working on volume have kept the three city golf courses operating for more than 80 years and it is the only way to make them profitable.

Even though administration stated a couple of years ago that Municipal Golf Course was the only course to make a profit, the city has twice previously contemplated selling it and both times have stopped as it was an unwise and unpopular decision.

Everyone knows Municipal Golf Course is situated next to an exclusive housing development. If Municipal was sold, would it continue to operate as a golf course, or is there a backhoe waiting in the wings?

A couple of years ago administration mentioned a possible selling price for Municipal Golf Course that was an insult and not in the best interest of city taxpayers.

If Municipal Golf Course was not situated on this very valuable property, would we even be talking about selling?

We would instead be talking about keeping our seniors out of the hospitals and our youth off the street with an affordable pastime.
