To the editor:

In regards to the news from city hall as reported on Nov. 29, 2011, by tbnewswatch.com, “City creates ¬ur¬ban guidelines to help developers,” it is incumbent of the citizenry to engage in a program that reflects civic pride and an energized community, but it should be undertaken within the context of what it can afford.

The development department of the City of Thunder Bay has hired the consulting firm of Brook Mcllroy to prepare urban and landscaping guidelines that will apply city wide.

With the recent reports of additional funding required by fire, EMS, the Thunder?Bay District Social Services Administration Board and road infrastructure, these costs will undoubtedly be reflected in future property tax increases.

Recommendations emanating from such consultant reports most usually have price tags associated with them.
The question we should be putting forth to our council how high on the priority list is this item.

Before we jump on board, we should also reflect upon the past initiatives endorsed by the development department, such as Innova Park, south core courthouse parking, waterfront, parking and the Nor’west wind farm.

Can someone in city hall turn off the spending tap? Do we really need another Christmas present from these folks?

Emil Pohler,
Thunder Bay
