To the editor:

In response to the many objectionable comments made on tbnewswatch.com to the flag being held upside down at the Idle No More Thunder Bay rally, I would like to first of all explain that I am responsible for that.

In fact I drove from Port Arthur, down Memorial Avenue onto Arthur Street to Fort William First Nation where the Idle No More rally was held at the Department of Indian Affairs.

Please understand this is not out of disrespect for this country. I love this country.

We are acting on the interests of not just ourselves, but of every Canadian citizen in this country. The upside down flag is held in objection to a legislation and it is a distress signal and a call for assistance that I thought the people of Thunder Bay recognized.

I have no apology to make, and I don’t blame anyone for not understanding, and I don’t blame anyone for their ignorance.

You must educate yourselves along with all First Nations people in this country.

We are rising up, we are Idle No More with increased knowledge of our history and empowering ourselves with the wisdom of our ancestors.

You are not taught the true history of this country and how First Nations people are impacted by it.

It is now up to you, are you going to stand by us or are you going to continue believing the lies?

Teresa Trudeau,
Thunder?Bay
