LETTER: Event centre should move

I have lived in Thunder Bay since 1942. I would not want to live anywhere else. We are fortunate to have several parks in this city which are maintained very well.

The improvement to Simpson Street cost a lot because the business establishments complained – what a waste. Then there was the improvement to the waterfront, that was supposed to attract so much tourism.

The profit from that won’t be realized for at least 50 years. About 20 years ago, the major repairs to Fort William Gardens started and now they’re saying it must be replaced. The location planned for it is downtown Port Arthur, which is impossible to set up parking. Now they have built a new courthouse in downtown Fort William; again, no parking.

There has always been bickering between Port Arthur and Fort William and there always will be. Port Arthur got the new hospital, so give Fort William the courthouse. The arena should be built around the old hospital and have lots of room for parking – with the lot of the Port Arthur General Hospital and all that parking.

Every time the old hospital is mentioned to be used for something, all the expenses are noted.
