With recent floods in the city of Thunder Bay let me present to you the following observation.
In discussions with a city contractor and a builder with many, many years of experience, he informed me that two of the buildings he had worked on in the East End did not suffer any sewer water back up problems.
Why ?
He had installed on them sewer back up water protectors. The units are relatively inexpensive to install on new home construction, more time consuming on pre-existing on already built homes.
Perhaps the provincial government should see about changing the building codes to include sewer back up water protectors, and including a tax-credit to homeowners who install them on pre-existing homes.
While we can do so much to improve the water system, to avoid future damages we should learn a very important truth, prevention is the best and simplest of cures.
Perhaps even the medical system can learn from this.
