LETTER: Inspection station holds immense potential for ensuring safer highways

However, taxpayers are yet to reap the full benefits of this investment.
letter-to-the-editor

To the editor,

The recently constructed inspection station and weigh scale just east of Thunder Bay, with a reported investment exceeding $30 million, holds immense potential for ensuring safer highways.

Truckers for Safer Highways eagerly anticipated its completion, recognizing its capacity to address the alarming prevalence of unsafe vehicles and drivers.

However, taxpayers are yet to reap the full benefits of this investment.

Situated strategically where alternative routes are scarce, this location stands as a pivotal checkpoint for truck drivers traversing Northern Ontario. Despite its significance, the facility has remained largely dormant since completion, with Ministry enforcement officers rarely seen in operation. It's imperative that such facilities operate daily to enforce compliance effectively.

We call upon the province to prioritize highway safety measures and ensure the consistent operation of inspection stations across the province.

Be safe out there,
