To the editor:
The Ontario PC and NDP Caucuses recently passed a motion in the Legislature calling for a special Select Committee to investigate the scandal-plagued agency ORNGE.
Local MPP Michael Gravelle, along with Dalton McGuinty and Health Minister Deb Matthews, all skipped the vote. Those Liberals who did show up voted against it.
Auditor General Jim McCarter’s scathing report found that Deb Matthews and the McGuinty Liberals failed to provide oversight of an organization that received more than $700 million in taxpayer dollars since 2006. In light of this, Mr. Gravelle has a responsibility to tell his constituents why he didn’t bother showing up.
With a $30-billion deficit, Tim Hudak and the PC Caucus have said Ontarians can’t afford waste and mismanagement of precious health care dollars.
Dalton McGuinty and Michael Gravelle must respect the democratic will of the Legislature. The Liberal government needs to set up the Committee and let us get to the bottom of this mess.
