LETTER: No funding, no event centre

To the edtior: A tbnewswatch.

To the edtior:

A tbnewswatch.com commenter who goes by the moniker 'dockboy' said it best when he expressed his thoughts on the shortcomings being brought to light for the proposed Thunder Bay event centre by writing:

“No dollar support from the feds, no Winnipeg farm team. Is anyone in council catching on? Give it up already!”

On May13, 2014,Thunder Bay city administration issued a news release showing some of the highlights of a non-binding letter of intent for the proposed event centre, where it states quite clearly:

• "No commitments can be made without ….. confirmation of Federal and Provincial funding for the project for the detailed design & construction phase.

• Subject to funding,  the city and Thunder Bay LIVE  will negotiate the following definitive agreements by March 2015:

• Lease of the spectator facility with True North for the American Hockey League affiliate with the Winnipeg Jets

• Design-build contract with PCL

The LOI will automatically terminate if the definitive agreements have not been executed by March 31, 2015.”

Even though Easter Monday is approaching, this deal is dead in the water without Federal funding and should not be resurrected.
