LETTER: Prank not funny

To the editor: I understand the young man who had strung up the fishing wire across Boulevard’s foot paths has been arrested. Now I understand every one’s curiosity as to why some of us want his name released.

To the editor:

I understand the young man who had strung up the fishing wire across Boulevard’s foot paths has been arrested.

Now I understand every one’s curiosity as to why some of us want his name released.

Let me begin with a little history lesson: traditionally before the settlers came here to colonize this country things were different – if you broke a law or neglected a child the community would deal with you.

Poor behaviour was discouraged not by rigid punishment or ridicule but by support. It seems fairly obvious to me that this young man was not playing a prank but had malicious intent for someone to hurt themselves on the fishing line.

If it had been a joke I think the young man may have put effort forth to actually make it funny as opposed to dangerous. I think we should release his name and instead of publicly outing this man as immature and irresponsible we can all encourage him not to do anything like this again.
