It is the location that we don't support when it comes to Horizon Wind Inc.’ s proposed turbine farm on the Nor’Wester escarpment, not the technology.
Green Energy is good in the right location. This province is huge and with any common sense you would realize you don't need it in the backyards of children.
There is existing unpopulated locations that are close to transmission lines that would be much better locations.
City council didn't consulate with the thousands of citizens who oppose the wind turbines in the Neebing ward, the Fort William First Nations or the Neebing Municipality prior to signing a deal. It might not be illegal but it sure was unethical to sneak the deal in.
The provincial government isn't doing what is right either. The elected leaders work for us not Horizon, yet they are like 12 year old kids who can't stand up for the citizens. Is that all it takes for our elected officials to get pushed around, threaten to sue and they fold.
Shame on you.
I am for progress but you need to use a little common sense. There is no real economic benefit to our community. There are many reasons why these turbines shouldn't be so close to our homes.
There is a lot of opposition from citizens in Thunder Bay and the citizens of Neebing are louder because it affects us the most. Some people just don't care because it they don't think it affects them but it will. Maybe people don't realize the actual cost, the lack of economic benefit and the cost of dismantling our beautiful mountains.
Why is it bad? It destroys what Thunder Bay is about, nature. Superior by nature doesn't mean 600 foot steel structures close to homes in a beautiful escarpment.
Yes it will bring down my property value and I am not a rich person so it will have a real impact on my ability to retire at a reasonable age.
It doesn't provide significant economic benefit, Horizon is the only one who benefits.
There is proven health effects around the world and right here in Ontario from wind farms that are too close to homes.
The cost to the city for the infrastructure and dismantling of the turbines when Horizon leaves.
Yes we don't want them in our back yard. No one is forcing anyone else in Thunder Bay to have a project with little economic benefit built in their backyard.
Yes we should have been consulted prior to the deal being signed. The list of reasons why the turbines shouldn't be here goes on and on.
I am sick and tired of us being ignored. Maybe we need to sue the city, the province and Horizon. That seems to be the only thing they will listen to.
