To the editor:
Early this morning I was heading to my drama for nine. I was sitting in the passenger seat with my mom in the driver’s seat.
Because we were in a van, my eight-month-old brother was behind her in the middle row, behind me was my friend, who was being dropped off with me for drama at Paramount Live on the corner of Algoma and Pearl Streets. My 9-year-old brother and 10-year-old sister were in the back seat.
I was in the middle of reading my script, My Son Pinnocchio, when my mother told me to look out the window.
I looked and I saw a body on the ground and two cars, one behind the body and the other behind the bike.
I saw police talking to the driver in the car that was behind the bike and a paramedic helping an injured 13-year-old.
I have a fear of cars, and have since I was little (my mom just found out last year). Now I have more of a reason to be afraid. Just riding my bike gives me the creeps even though I’m 12 and have to stay on the sidewalk.
My mom’s cousin, when she was about my brother’s age, had a cousin hit by a transport truck.
My mom has been in a car accident before and I’m just scared that traffic is getting worse with drivers passing through yellow lights faster than usual and texting while driving.
