Letter: Senseless act

To the editor:

I want to report on a childish and vindictive attack on the Thunder Bay Horticultural Society’s shed behind the Oliver Road Community Centre. This shed has been on this property for the last six-plus years with no incidents.

Through the course of the summer this shed has been forcibly broken into on three separate occasions and nothing was taken on any of these occasions.

During the last break-in – on the evening of Sept. 15 – the wheelbarrow was taken out of the shed, a box of pots were strewn over the property and bags of soil were ripped open and scattered over the grounds.

These attacks culminated in a fire in the early hours of Sept. 20, which totally destroyed the building and its contents. Please help us to understand how such foolish and wanton destruction accomplishes anything useful?

Whoever or whomever are responsible for this act need to seek professional help as they are in need of some serious psychiatric assistance.

This was nothing but a cowardly attack on an inanimate object. If the parties responsible had come forward and aired their grievances, maybe something could have been done.

But then again, maybe it was just lawless louts out for some mindless fun.

Shirley Robson,
Past President
Thunder Bay Horticultural Society
