LETTER: Sex offender registry a must

To the editor:

Upon hearing about the arrest regarding child pornography here in Thunder Bay; my heart came to a screeching halt with panic. A mother of one teenage girl, a toddler girl, and a victim of sexual assault/abuse as a teen, I am deeply concerned about this.

Not only am I hoping (like most other parents) that these sick perverted psychologically damaged people get a heavy jail sentence, I am assuming that they will have to register as sex offenders as well?

If not, I petition every parent, woman, father and anyone else out there that finds this kind of child abuse through pornography, as offensive and sick as I do, to write in and demand that they be required to be on the sexual offenders registry.

If I am correct, this allows anyone to know and find out, if they move into your neighborhood, what kind of restrictions they have as far as being near a school area, parks or anywhere children under 16, might be.

I am grateful the police are cracking down and making these disturbed people face the legal consequences of their actions. I can only hope that this will entail a serious amount of therapy while behind bars and a very firm parole board ensuring that they aren't released into society unless reformed.

Thumbs up to Thunder Bay Police. Here's hoping we can begin to keep Thunder Bay as a family city with high standards an morals protecting our youth, our future, our children.
