To the editor:

It is with great disappointment that I am reading of the closure of the Global Sticks plant in Thunder Bay.

I am sure that the economic model created by the Global Sticks team and all those involved demonstrated the success of the company in Northern Ontario. I believe that the length of time for this project to come to fruition was one of the contributing factors to its demise.

When businesses and governments partner in projects of this nature, the time involved to see all the details to finality is often overlooked, creating hardship all around.

I do feel that the opportunity that Global Sticks offers to the city of Thunder Bay and the surrounding area is a step in the right direction for both the forestry industry and the manufacturing industry here in North America.

I do know that Global Sticks moved from China because of the diminishing wood supply and restrictions on harvesting. I hope this is not the underlying cause of this unfortunate situation here in Thunder Bay.
