In light of National Bullying Awareness Week I will be standing up to a bully at my 11-year-old son’s school today.
For the past month my son has been coming home daily with complaints about this bully at school. Telling me how he is constantly picking on him, in class, in the hallways, and on the playground at recess.
I’ve had enough! After multiple phone calls with the teacher and the principal, the situation has reached a level of no return.
Not only do I feel avoided as a concerned parent, I also think this issue cannot be resolved at the school level.
So where do I go from here as a very concerned parent? How do I address the fact that my son’s bully is much bigger than him, much bigger than me?
This bully is a man of authority. This man is supposed to be a leader, a teacher, and a mentor.
That’s right, my son’s bully is not a child; he is his primary teacher.
I’m reaching out to my community for help; please write a letter to the editor if you feel your child is being bullied at school, regardless of who it is. We need to stand up to bullying as a community and realize it is happening right now in our children’s classrooms.
