To the editor,

I'm all in support of Larry Larivee. I'm a Mac's employee as well.

Along with the security issues, there are other things that need to be looked. Things such as wages.  Has any Mac's employee seen a wage increases in the past three years or so?

Nope.

Because the company decided to put a wage freeze in place in order to renovate stores for the new coffee programs. That’s a prime example of money over employees.

What about benefits?

Most of us Mac's employees are hard workers, with families to feed and bills to pay, but do we have any coverage when it comes time to get some medication or get a tooth fixed? Of course not, they don't want to pay for that.

And of course there are security issues. So what have they done for Thunder Bay so far? Some stores they shut them down at night, putting hard workers out of work but of course, saves Mac's some money.

I hear rumblings that say the next step is to put in better lighting and fence off some areas for the other stores.

Well that really doesn't accomplish anything. It just means we can see them coming and have a few moments to crap our pants before they come in. These security guys they have hired, how much does anyone know of them? Well, I'll tell yo, they hired two guys. These two guys go around, stop at every store for maybe five minutes just to have the staff members count their tills and make sure their safes are all locked.

Then they leave.

That doesn't make anyone safe except for those five minutes that they're there.

And it also means Mac's is more concerned with making sure the robbers don't get a whole lot of money from them.

Unionizing Mac's is a great idea, and one I'd support to the bitter end. But with that idea comes another fear, Larry. What would Mac's response be? My belief is that they'd just shutdown all the stores and fire everyone who just unionized, only to re-open a few months later, filled with new, non-unionized staff.

Mac’s employee,
Thunder Bay
