Letter to the Editor: Are Wanted Wednesday offences worth public humiliation?

Is the public humiliation that comes with plastering people's mug shot all over the news really worth it?
Police station

To the editor:

Regarding Wanted Wednesdays, I noted a recent installment featured a woman wanted for mischief to property valued under $5,000, and missing court, with the usual unflattering mug-shot. And it was reproduced on the paper's cover.

Is this really the kind of thing worthy of public humiliation? Particularly given that these charges haven't been proven against her?

But I guess we can't be too careful -- it might be your garbage can she dents next.
