To the editor:
I am a resident of Thunder Bay and have been since I was born.
I remember when transit only cost about a dollar to get a ride.
Every year for the past few years transit has been raising the fare, and saying they’re making all these changes. I ride the bus everywhere I go, and half the time I have to walk to the places I need to get to, like my place of employment, because the bus route can’t get me there.
I called and asked if this could be changed. The answer I received was ‘sorry, we can't do anything we know that the area is being well populated now with more business, but because of the deal we can't do anything for two years.’
How is this changing anything? What happened to the new terminal that we were supposed to get that’s still located at city hall?
Or what about how there’s not enough room on the buses?
Or that with the new time changes you have to wait an extra 40 minutes just to get home on some buses?
Or that there’s not enough buses running in this city to begin with?
But yet they sure don't have a problem raising the fare every year. At the rate they’re going I’m better off getting my license and paying insurance.
How are people who can’t afford a vehicle going to afford a bus pass every month? Especially when half of them can’t even afford groceries for a month. I’m sorry but the transit system in this city disgusts me.
They keep saying they’re changing it and making it better for us but I don't see any changes being made. The changes that are made make the system worse for people like me who have to ride the bus everyday.
