LETTER: Traveler can relate to bad resort experience

To the editor:

The Bahia Principe San Juan in the Dominican Republic was the resort I traveled to last May and it completely changed my opinion on travelling south.

I don't think I will ever be able to return to the Dominican. The security guards would knock on our doors once a day. If you answered they would pretend they were coming to fix your air conditioner with a little tool box (even though you never called to say it was broken).

If you didn't answer, they would walk in and steal your stuff.

So many of us got so many things stolen and the manager of the resort didn't even care (just like in this article).

One morning my friend and I decided to sleep in a little later than usual and we woke up to one of the security guards walking around in our room.

There was a man working on the resort who continued to ask my best friend to go for a motorcycle ride with her and she had to keep saying no, just like what happened in this article.

There was also a night that after my first drink I felt like I had gotten drugged and was hallucinating all night. It was the scariest experience of my life.

The bartenders at the resort told me the next day that there could have been a "bad batch of rum."

On top of everything, the morning that we were supposed to leave, the workers at the resort wouldn't let one of my best friends leave the resort because they said that she broke one of the street lights and needs to pay them if she wants to leave. My friend is 5-foot-5, so that's impossible.

They wanted to arrest her for something she had no clue about and we even had to hide her under a friend's bed so they wouldn't find her because the security guards were biking around the resort looking for her.

This resort should be burned to the ground and everyone working there should be fired. It was so awful. I feel as though now that this article has been posted there will be a lot more stories coming out from people who have visited Bahia Principe, San Juan.
