Fall is probably one of my favourite seasons. It is the perfect time of year to change my Facebook status to “Winter is Coming”.
It is also a time to dress up and unleash the alter ego.
Finding a costume this year wasn’t too difficult since our friends decided to go with a theme, a TV Science Fiction theme.
I went as Dax and my husband went as Spock from Star Trek. I think most people who know him would say that my husband was born to play Spock. Although these costumes were pretty tame I decided to put together this year’s short list of the best and worst costume ideas of 2013.
Best Female Costume – The Fox from What Does the Fox Say. This video is catchy and nonsensical which pretty much sums up Halloween in general. This song has certainly de-throned Gangnam style as the foreign breakthrough song of the year.
As silly as this song is, it does make you think, what does the fox say? There are many ways to do this costume.
It is too easy to sex this one up but if you are thinking of this particular costume there are many ways to do it and still be safe for work.
Worst Female Costume - Miley Cyrus: I am not talking about just any Miley Cyrus costume; I am talking about VMA 2013 Miley Cyrus costume. This is a bad idea on many levels. Firstly, it is October. It’s really cold outside and nude plastic bra and undies is just not practical. Second, the probability of a wardrobe malfunction increase tenfold with such a costume choice. Finally, EWWWWWWwwww!
Best Male Costume – 50 Shades of Grey:?I know what you are thinking, “How do I do a 50 Shades of Grey costume since I am handsome and dashing anyway. It is hardly dressing up when I am naturally this beautiful”. I saw the most creative costume. A guy got a pile of paint card swatches from a hardware shop and taped them all over himself. They were all grey swatch cards. How fun is that! It is one pun costume.
Worst Male Costume – Offensive costumes: This one is a touchy subject for some. People say, “It’s Halloween. Let everyone have some fun!” On the surface this looks like a good idea, but what if someone showed up to your house in a KKK outfit? Or dressed as a terrorist? I think the audience does matter but play it on the safe side this year and stay away from religious and/or racist costumes.
Best Couple – French Kiss:?Picture this, KISS makeup but dressed as French mimes. Brilliant!
Worst Couple - Rihanna and Chris Brown: This one is offensive on so many levels and just not funny.
