OPINION: Hobbs the right man for the job

Having attended the mayoral debate, I've come to the conclusion that Keith Hobbs is the man to lead the city over the next four years.

Having attended the mayoral debate, I've come to the conclusion that Keith Hobbs is the man to lead the city over the next four years.

He's proud of Thunder Bay and is its biggest booster not only here but when he attends conferences and meetings outside the city. Crime has gone down since he became mayor and Hobbs, like the rest of us, is overly concerned about the high number of homicides.

Hobbs is compassionate about the social issues plaguing our community like drugs, homelessness and poverty and is not a one-issue candidate like Shane Judge whose main motivation as mayor is to to kill the event centre project.

In fact, Judge admitted during the mayoral debate that he decided to run for mayor when he learned council had decided not to hold a plebiscite.

How about running for the city's top office because you're concerned about some citizens not having a place to sleep or knowing where their next meal is coming from?

Judge said that if he becomes mayor the event centre will not proceed. But he is only one vote. The rest of council might decide otherwise.

Bottom line is we need a mayor who has a vision for Thunder Bay that will move us forward to being a prosperous community that we can all be proud of and not one with tunnel vision.
