THUNDER BAY — The 10-year-old cyclist involved in a morning collision with a school bus has died.

In a Tuesday afternoon update, the Thunder Bay Police Service confirmed the child died in hospital from injuries sustained during the north-side collision.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Red River Road and Clarkson Street just after 8:40 a.m. following the incident.

Police said their investigation is ongoing, but it is believed the school bus was making a right turn from Clarkson onto Red River and the cyclist was headed west on the south sidewalk approaching the intersection when the two made contact at the crosswalk.

Acting Traffic Sgt. Tom Armstrong noted there were a number of students on the bus who witnessed the incident.

Police are also asking the public if they witnessed the event or have any dash-cam, or other video footage of the incident to contact police.

The intersection had been closed throughout the morning, but the scene has since been released.

Anyone with information that could assist with the investigation and has not yet made a police statement is asked to call Thunder Bay police's non-emergency line.
