THUNDER BAY — The Thunder Bay District Health Unit reports 156 active COVID-19 cases in its service area as of Monday morning.

In its first update since Friday, TBDHU said there were 101 new confirmed cases.

But due to a large number of cases being resolved over the weekend, the active case count is 30 fewer than on Friday.

Thirty-four people are in hospital with COVID-19, one fewer than on Friday.

The number of patients in ICU is holding steady at nine.

TBDHU data shows there have been 5,054 confirmed COVID-19 infections across the district since Jan. 1, 2022, which is well over half the 9,310 cases recorded since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.

The district's most recent weekly positivity rate for COVID-19 tests (up to Mar. 5) is 20.1 per cent, compared with only 12.1 per cent for Ontario as a whole as of Monday morning.

On Monday, the province reported 1,116 new cases.

However, for the first time since Dec. 20, the government reported no new deaths in Ontario related to COVID-19.
