10X10 festival to be held at Magnus Theatre this weekend

The festival is in its ninth year, but it's the first time it will be produced by Magnus Theatre

THUNDER BAY – The 10-by-10 Short Play Festival opens this weekend with a sold out show Friday night at Magnus Theatre but it's not too late to get tickets for the Saturday performances, showcasing local playwrights, actors, and directors.

"Ten excellent plays, directed by 10 fantastic directors, and just the best of the local acting talent that we have,” said Jordan Blaxill, theatre in education director, Magus Theatre “It's going to make for a real blockbuster first one for Magnus."

The festival is in its ninth year, but it's the first time it will be produced by Magnus Theatre. The format hasn't changed, with 10 plays, each 10-minutes long all written by local playwrights and Blaxill says the 10x10 festival is always of high quality but that he thinks this year is something special

"There's dramas, there's comedies, there's a western,” he said. “I think there are going to be some shows that really connect with people because of how they deal with life in Northwestern Ontario and life during the pandemic. I think there's really going to be something that everybody is going to enjoy."

While the Friday night gala is already sold out, tickets for the Saturday matinee and evening performances can be purchased by calling the box office or through the Magnus Theatre website.
