THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay District Health Unit announced 14 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, as a 14th death was reported at the Southbridge Roseview long-term care home.

The latest death associated with the COVID-19 outbreak at Roseview, now in its second month, brings the total number of deaths attributed to the virus in the Thunder Bay District to 16.

Active cases associated with that outbreak continued to shrink, however, with 14 active resident cases and eight staff cases reported by Southbridge Care Homes Tuesday.

All 14 new cases involved individuals in Thunder Bay and the surrounding areas, which include Oliver Paipoonge, Neebing, Gillies, Shuniah, Conmee, O'Connor, and some unorganized territories.

Thirteen of the cases were considered a result of close contact with a previously identified case, while an exposure category was listed as “pending” for the remaining case.

Active cases in the district dipped below 100 for the second consecutive day, a mark that had been consistently exceeded since Dec. 3.

There continued to be no individuals hospitalized with the virus as of Tuesday morning, the health unit reported.

The district has now seen a total of 522 cases, with 408 considered resolved.
