THUNDER BAY — The Thunder Bay District Health Unit has confirmed 177 new COVID-19 cases since Friday.
As of Monday morning, there were 337 active cases in the TBDHU service area, 22 fewer than Friday.
The health unit said that according to the most recently available data, 47 people with COVID-19 are in hospital, including 10 in intensive care.
The test positivity rate fell to 17.9 per cent during the week of Jan. 30 to Feb. 5, compared with 18.4 per cent the previous week.
Since the start of the new year, all cases in the district have involved the Omicron variant of the virus.
Because testing for COVID-19 has been limited to certain groups since Dec. 31, 2021, TBDHU continues to caution that the lab-confirmed cases it reports are a significant under-representation of COVId-19 activity in the district.
Across Ontario, there were 1,369 people in hospital with COVID on Monday, including 394 in intensive care, as the recent downward trend continued.
A week ago, the province had 2,155 hospitalizations including 486 in ICU.
