29 residents and staff confirmed with COVID-19 at Southbridge Pinewood

There are COVID outbreaks in two sections of the Walsh Street long-term care home.

THUNDER BAY — An outbreak of COVID-19 at a Thunder Bay long-term care facility has affected 29 people.

According to information posted by Southbridge Care Homes, 25 residents and four staff members at the 128-bed Southbridge Pinewood facility on Walsh Street East have tested positive for the virus.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit and Southbridge initially declared an outbreak in the Hummingbird section of the nursing home on Sept. 23.

On Sept. 30, they declared an outbreak in the Kingfisher section.

Southbridge says all 29 affected individuals are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

The staff members involved are currently isolating at home.
