55 Plus Centre repairs after vandalism

Repairs are underway and programming continues after the 55 Plus Centre was badly vandalized last month.

THUNDER BAY — Repairs are underway for the 55 Plus Centre following an act of vandalism last month.

After 33 windows and three doors were smashed in July, the city recreation facility has been working hard to get the building put back together.

Twyla Biluk, supervisor of older adults at the centre, said while all the windows have been replaced, the three doors are still boarded up, and they are waiting for new carpet to be installed in the affected rooms.

While the vandalism did cause disruption to programs at the centre, nothing was cancelled, and Biluk is hoping that all the repairs will be finished for the start of fall programming.

Security options are being reviewed for the building in an effort to avoid future vandalism. Police are still investigating the incident.
