82 nominated for upcoming Fort William First Nation election

Nominations have been collected for the upcoming Fort William First Nation election. As of last night's deadline, about 70 candidates are running for the 12 available councilor positions.

As of last night's deadline, about 70 candidates are running for the 12 available councilor positions.

Incumbent Chief Peter Collins and 12 others are in the running for chief’s position.

While Collins did announce earlier that his plans were to retire from the political stage, he now says he is reconsidering his decision. Collins said there appears to be a lot of people urging him to run again, and he may change his retirement plans as a result.

Nominated candidates have until Tuesday, March 1 to withdraw their name from the ballot.

Eligible voters will be able to cast a ballot on April 7.

* Candidates have until March 1 to remove their names from the list of nominees.
