A CN freight train derailed west of Thunder Bay

THUNDER BAY —  Canadian National Railway has sent repair and cleanup crews to a derailment that happened late Monday afternoon west of Thunder Bay.

The railway provided some details in a brief statement Tuesday in response to an inquiry from TBnewswatch.

It said seven railcars carrying potash left the tracks at a site between Sunshine and Shabaqua, but described the incident as minor.

According to the statement, nobody was injured, and there was no fire or spillage of any dangerous goods.

The cause of the derailment is under investigation.

The Transportation Safety Board said it has been notified, and that it is still gathering information about the incident.
