For the Zamojski family, celebrating Canada Day at the Fort William Historical Park has been a tradition that’s going into its third decade.
Although Marie and John Zamojski no longer celebrate Canada Day with their grandchildren, as they’ve all grown up, the two grandparents still enjoy taking part in the festivities.
Friday’s celebrations marked the 20th consecutive Canada Day the couple has spent at the historical park, and the Zamojski’s joined hundreds of families to celebrate the country’s 149th birthday.
“I think (Canada Day) helps - our young people realize how important and how proud they should be of our country,” Marie said.
Shortly after arriving to the park Marie and her husband watched the youngster take part in the potato sack races, one of the many activities happening throughout the day.
“It’s fun watching the young ones do all the different activities,” she said.
“We just watched the sack race and it was very cute. Those are the kinds of things that we enjoy.”
The couple hopes to venture down to the Marina Park this evening for the Canada Day fireworks.
Eight-year-old Koen Horne knows that Canada Day is a time for people to celebrate its great country and, of course, play some games.
“Canada is an awesome country,” Horne said. “I’m here to have fun, play games and eat some food with my family.”
After a friendly game of ring toss the youngster said he couldn’t wait to play more games, go canoeing and head down the marina for the fireworks.
