NEEBING, Ont.  — The damage is so extensive that it may be difficult to pinpoint the cause of a fire that destroyed a 5th wheel trailer and equipment in Neebing late Monday night.

Firefighters got the alarm just before 11 p.m. from a property on Copper Cliff Road, and responded with eight personnel, two pumpers and two tankers.

Neebing Fire Chief Dale Ashbee said they arrived to find the trailer fully involved, and a nearby Sea Can on fire as well.

Ashbee said the homeowner tried extinguishing the blaze with a fire extinguisher, but dialled 911 after that proved to be ineffective.

"Once the fire was in the RV, it was pretty quick to go up," he said.

Firefighters knocked the flames down and remained on the scene mopping up for a couple hours.

Ashbee said ATVs were among the items damaged in the blaze.

He said propane tanks did not explode as their venting mechanisms functioned as they are designed to, but explosions that were heard during the fire were most likely cans of spray paint.

Ashbee noted that it was fortunate that the trailer and Sea Can were a few hundred feet away from the nearest home.

"Be ready for the unexpected," he advised residents. "Everything was normal here until quarter to eleven last night. In minutes the whole world changed, and they've had a fair bit of property loss. It's still pretty traumatic."
