THUNDER BAY – Artificial turf has become the go-to product for homeowners in the city.
Homeowner Walter Keating said he was tired of re-sodding his lawn year after year because of road salt, but now he doesn't even own a lawn mower.
The local company is called Go Green Turf Design. It started up ten years ago despite skepticism from the community.
The company is currently preparing the kindergarten playground at St. Bernard Elementary School for synthetic turf.
Walter added that many schools and day cares are interested because the fake grass is durable, safe for children, and never gets muddy.
More and more home owners, businesses and schools are jumping on board and with many lawns going yellow because of a relentlessly hot July, he said business is looking good.
Walter said the turf can last about 25 years, it never fades, and drains water properly.
You can even decide on the shade of green and length. For Keating the decision to go synthetic was practical because of his busy lifestyle.
Their home is always the first with green grass right after the snow melts, which confuses many passersby.
