THUNDER BAY — Thunder Bay Police are trying to locate the person responsible for a break-in and theft that disrupted the COVID-19 vaccination clinic in the CLE Coliseum building.

The incident occurred at about 1 a.m. Tuesday, but wasn't discovered until approximately 10:45 a.m.

A police spokesperson says a woman broke into the Cardinal Room and stole a number of items including needles.

Citing an "emergency" and "unforeseen circumstances," the Thunder Bay District Health Unit announced the temporary closure of the vaccination clinic on social media on Tuesday, but said it would reopen at mid-afternoon.

Not everyone got that information in time, however.

A resident told Dougall Media she travelled to the CLE for her vaccination only to be told the clinic was shut down because of a burglary.

TBDHU has not provided any further details.

A spokesperson said Wednesday the health unit will not comment on the incident.
