Accused impaired driver arrested following highway crash

OPP News Release: 

(KENORA, ON) Members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged two people with Impaired Driving offences over the weekend.

On Saturday May 30, shortly after 1:00 am, the Kenora OPP received a report of a two vehicle collision between a tractor trailer unit (TTU) and a passenger vehicle on Highway 17, near the east junction of Highway 17/17A.  Police attended and determined the driver of the passenger vehicle had been consuming alcohol.  The driver was arrested for impaired driving. The driver sustained minor injuries and was transported for medical assessment.

As a result of this investigation, 56 year old Catherine SHEPPARD of Winnipeg has been charged with Impaired Driving contrary to section 254(1)(a) of the Criminal Code(CC) and Fail to Provide Breath Sample section 254(5) CC.  She is to appear in Kenora Court on July 23, 2015 to answer to the charges. 

On Sunday May 31, 2015 just before 2:00 am, Kenora OPP conducted a vehicle stop on Highway 17 at Second Street South.  Police determined the driver had been consuming alcohol and placed him under arrest.  He was transported to the Kenora detachment for further tests.

As a result of this investigation, 70 year old Donald MCRAE of Fowler Township, Ontario has been charged with Impaired Driving sec 254(1)(a) CC and Care and Control of a Motor Vehicle with over 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood contrary to sec 253(1)(b) CC.

He is to appear in Kenora Court on July 2, 2015 to answer to the charge.
