Accused in alleged home takeover case granted bail

One of five people arrested in connection to a drug trafficking investigation on Nov. 15 has been released from custody following a court appearance on Monday afternoon.

THUNDER BAY - One of five individuals facing drug trafficking charges in connection with an alleged home takeover case has been granted release from custody following a bail appearance on Monday.

Dana Florence Nobis, 36, of Thunder Bay appeared by phone on Monday, Nov. 23, in bail court and was released from custody by a justice of the peace.

Her charges include one count of possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking and possession of Oxycodone for the purpose of trafficking in connection to a Nov. 15 incident in the city.  Nobis was released after both she and her surety promised to pay a total of $1,000 with no deposit.

Her conditions include she resides in Thunder Bay and be inside her residence daily between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m., comply with curfew compliance checks by Thunder Bay police, consent to personal searches without the necessity of a search warrant, not possess any weapons and she must stay away from drugs and drug trafficking paraphernalia.

She is also not allowed to communicate with her co-accused: Anthony Nicholas Kaplanis, Nathaniel Joshua Matthews, and Amanda Yvonne Owen.

A 17-year-old male youth from Brampton was also arrested with the four accused. His name cannot be published in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Police were initially called to Limbrick Street just before 11:15 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 15 following complaints of a possible home takeover, according to a police news release issued on Nov. 16. When officers arrived they learned unwanted individuals were currently inside the home and trafficking illicit drugs.

Police located a quantity of suspected fentanyl, suspected Percocet pills, cash and drug trafficking paraphernalia. 

Kaplanis and Owen are scheduled to appear in court later this week for bail or bail planning purposes.
