Active COVID-19 case count climbs for second straight day

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit is reporting six new COVID-19 cases, bringing the number of active cases to 36.

THUNDER BAY - The number of active COVID-19 cases in the Thunder Bay District has climbed for the second straight day as new cases once again outnumber previous cases now resolved.

On Thursday, the Thunder Bay District Health Unit reported six new COVID-19 cases. With only one previous case listed as resolved, the active case count climbed to 36, up from 31 on Wednesday.

Of the new cases, five are from Thunder Bay and surrounding areas and one in a First Nation community. Three cases are the result of close contact, two have no known exposure, and one is still pending.

There are no new variants of concern detected in the region, nor any additional hospitalizations. Currently there are four district hospitalizations with one individual in the intensive care unit.

Since the start of the pandemic there has been 3,157 positive cases of COVID-19 in the district.
