Adventure Trails in trouble

The up-and-down temperatures across the region have not been good news for the Thunder Bay Adventure Trails Snowmobile Club.
The up-and-down temperatures across the region have not been good news for the Thunder Bay Adventure Trails Snowmobile Club.

Eight of the club's nine trails remain closed, the only exception being the Shabaqua trail from the Timberland Motel to Gravel Lake Cabins.

Adventure Trails President Marcel Gauthier said volunteers are doing everything they can to prepare the trails, but admits that a lack of co-operation from Mother Nature has slowed down the process.

The recent weather has been extremely damaging to an organization that's seen a decline in trail permit sales for much of the past decade.

Only 114 permits have been sold to date this season.

Gauthier said if the club can't find other ways to generate revenue, it may not be around for much longer.
