After week off, council meeting met with packed agenda

A proposed events centre, parking, strategic planning and the city's financial situation will all be dealt with at Monday night's city council meeting.

Those items are part of a packed agenda as council returns from a one-week hiatus for the Victoria Day long weekend holiday.

First item on the agenda deals with a parking management study to accommodate the development at Prince Arthur's Landing.

The plan calls for an increase of more than 500 parking spaces. If approved, administration will report back early in the new year on how to implement the plan.

Included with the parking study will be a deputation from the lead representatives of the two private sector developers at Prince Arthur's Landing.

Joe Bova of Laureate Developments and Giselle MacDonald of the Resolve Group will provide an update on private sector components.

Also on the meeting’s agenda, a business and funding model assessment for the proposed event centre will come forward, just days ahead of public consultation sessions.

After months of planning, council will receive the first report on the city's strategic vision for the next 10 years. A report on the city's financial position from 2010 will also be presented. The report shows the city achieved a favourable variance of nearly $6 million last year.
