THUNDER BAY — A man remains in the hospital after being attacked in the city's north end over the weekend.

Police attended a call on Saturday afternoon after receiving reports of an assault at a hotel on Dawson Road.

Investigators quickly learned that the victim was assaulted with an edged weapon in an alleged unprovoked attack. The victim was taken to hospital with what were described as serious injuries.

Police report that the victim and assailant were known to each other.

The accused fled the scene before police arrived, but during their investigation police were able to identify the suspect as a 37-year-old Thunder Bay man.

Officers also learned the suspect was connected to a robbery that occurred on July 16. The suspect allegedly entered a grocery store and stole wine while threatening staff with a weapon.

During a bail hearing on Tuesday, the accused was remanded into custody after facing bail court on six charges, including aggravated assault.
