Officials with the Ornge medical transport agency are continuing efforts to fix a staffing problem at their base in Thunder Bay.

The local base has one helicopter and two airplanes to service the Thunder Bay region. But the base has only two paramedic crews, leaving one of the three aircraft grounded when it might be required.

Spokesman James MacDonald says because of the high demand for medical transports using their airplanes, it's usually the helicopter that is left with no crew available.

Ornge officials have come up with what they call "a reasonable solution," and put forward a funding request to the Ministry of Health about a month ago.

So far they're still waiting for a reply.
