The Thunder Bay Airport is getting ready to put its new solar project into service.

Thunder Bay International Airport CEO Scott McFadden said the construction has now reached completion.

The last step will be to connect the panels to the grid, as part of the commissioning process.

The panels will produce eight-to-nine megawatts of energy, which is about enough to power a small town.

McFadden said SkyPower and Thunder Bay Hydro are now in talks to set up the panels for operation.

Once the commissioning is complete, the solar panels will be up in running within two weeks.
