THUNDER BAY — Infielder Manny Alberto is the lone Thunder Bay Border Cats player named to the Northwoods League all-star team.

The Aurora, Ont.-born Alberto was one of 25 players named to the Great Plains Division roster, that will take on the Great Plains West team on July 16 in Madison, Wisc.

In 40 games, Alberto has posted a .316 batting average, with eight doubles, a triple, two home runs and 36 RBI. He's also walked 22 times and struck out just 28 times.

Every other team in the conference had at least two players named to the team.

Jordan Bach, who departed the Cats after the first half, but was on the ballot, was not selected. Bach hit .429 with six home runs and 32 RBI in 26 games.

Teams were chosen in balloting that involved team officials and members of the media, including the author of this story. Voters were not allowed to choose players from their affiliated team.
