THUNDER BAY – The roadwork season only has a couple of months to go and city officials are confident they'll be able to complete the Algoma Street re-construction before the snow flies.

Finishing the sidewalks and adding a top layer of asphalt are the final things that remain to be done in the first section of the project between John Street and Cornwall Avenue. The contractor has already moved onto the second part of the project, which runs from Cornwall to Bay Street.

City project engineer Brian Newman expects that section to be complete by the first week of November.

The second stretch won't take as long, he says, because it has far fewer service connections.

Newman hopes having one lane of traffic open won't be as much of an issue this time around.

Over the past few years the roadwork season has lasted until late November because of the warmer weather the region has faced. But Newman reiterates they shouldn't need that much time to wrap up work on Algoma.
