Americans fined $1,500 for illegal baitfish harvesting

Illegal baitfish harvesting north of Minaki has cost a pair of Wisconsin anglers a total of $1,500.

Dan and Charles Schafer, who hail from Chippewa Falls, were each fined $500 for harvesting baitfish for commercial purposes, while Charles Schafer was fined an additional $500 for leaving a boat on Crown land.

Ministry of Natural Resources officials testified they were tipped off about a commercial harvesting operation by two men on land not assigned to them, investigating the complaint in the summer of 2011.
