Anglers charged during NW Ontario enforcement blitz

Conservation officers checked almost 700 anglers over three days

THUNDER BAY - Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry conservation officers were kept busy during a recent enforcement blitz along Highway 105 north of Vermilion Bay.

During the three-day blitz earlier this month, officers checked 685 anglers between Vermilion Bay and Ear Falls.

They were ensuring compliance with the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act and Ontario fishery regulations.

Twenty-five charges were laid, and officers issued a further 52 warnings.

Charges included:

  • fishing without a licence
  • having an over-limit of fish
  • keeping fish of a prohibited size
  • fishing in a sanctuary during closed season
  • abandoning fish suitable for food

Officers also laid charges and issued warnings under the Liquor Licence Act and the Small Vessel Regulations for infractions such as having open alcohol and operating a boat without the required safety equipment.
