Area inflation rate rises, now just below national average

Thunder Bay residents witnessed a sharp increase to the inflation rate during the final month of winter. New Statistics Canada numbers show that the inflation rate for the Thunder Bay area rose to 2.7 per cent in February, which is 0.

Thunder Bay residents witnessed a sharp increase to the inflation rate during the final month of winter.

New Statistics Canada numbers show that the inflation rate for the Thunder Bay area rose to 2.7 per cent in February, which is 0.7 per cent higher than the two per cent recorded in January.

That puts Thunder Bay only slightly under the national rate, which was also recorded at 2.7 per cent.

Meanwhile. the provincial inflation rate was up to 2.9 per cent.

The highest rate of inflation recorded in February was 3.3 per cent in Quebec City.

Victoria had the lowest rate of inflation with 1.6 per cent.
