Area jobless rate rises slightly in January: StatsCan

THUNDER BAY -- Jobless numbers rose slightly early in the New Year. Recently released data from Statistics Canada shows that unemployment for the Thunder Bay area reached five per cent in January. That’s up slightly from the 4.

Recently released data from Statistics Canada shows that unemployment for the Thunder Bay area reached five per cent in January.

That’s up slightly from the 4.9 percent unemployment rate recorded in December, 2012.

The five per cent jobless figure still gives the Thunder Bay area one of the lowest unemployment rates in Ontario.

Nationally, the unemployment rate dropped slightly in January to seven per cent from 7.1 in December.
