Police in the Kenora area are investigating two separate fatal crashes that took place early Thursday morning.

Officers with the Kenora detachment of the OPP say they responded to a single motor-vehicle collision on Highway 17, about 10 kilometres east of Highway 71, just after midnight.

Police say a vehicle struck a rock cut and caught fire. One man was killed as a result of that incident.

The highway was closed following the crash, but re-opened to one lane around 5 a.m.

Meanwhile, police responded to a second fatal crash that was reported around 6:30 a.m. Thursday.

That collision took place on Highway 71 in the area of Fickas Road in Sioux Narrows Nestor Falls. Few details are available about that collision.

Police continue to investigate both incidents.
